Parveen Shakir was a prominent Pakistani poet, known for her innovative style and the way she expressed her views on various social issues. Born on November 24, 1952, in Karachi, she was the daughter of Syed Nazir Ali, an experienced businessman. Her father was a prominent figure in the Pakistani society, and her mother was a homemaker. Parveen Shakir was the second child of the family, and she had two sisters and a brother.

Parveen Shakir was educated in Karachi and Lahore. She received her Bachelor's degree from Kinnaird College, Lahore, in 1971. She went on to obtain her Master's degree in English Literature from the University of Karachi in 1972. Later, she completed her MA in linguistics from the same university in 1984.

Parveen Shakir began her career as a civil servant in the government of Pakistan. She joined the civil service in 1976 and was appointed as an assistant director in the education department. However, she was more interested in writing poetry, which she had been doing since her early years. In 1977, her first collection of poetry, "Khushbu," was published. The book received critical acclaim and established Parveen Shakir as a major poet of Pakistan.

Parveen Shakir's poetry was characterized by its unique style and its ability to convey deep emotions and social commentary. She often wrote about the struggles of women in a male-dominated society and addressed issues such as love, romance, and feminism.
